Thereafter he got married and became a father which changed his views on life. By this time he had completed a BSC Marine Operations covering Marine Law and Shipmanagement. Following on, he obtained a masters in business at Edinburg University. In doing so, he looked at what education he had undergone and undertook a gap analysis of where he was and where he wanted to go. Having done so, he then completed the missing units. He moved into corporate finance and thereafter to Inmarsat where he obviously relishing his work. He speaks of his work and the equipment on hand in the "hub" to help him in it which includes a full bridge simulator including the hardware used in communicating through Inmarsat. He enthused about a unit that has been developed to allow communication between GSM phones via an Inmarsat terminal a fantastic welfare facility to have on board as it allows seafarers to make calls using their mobile phones from their cabins onboard. All in all, Kartik provides a fascinating insight into the capabilities of modern maritime communication technology.
