Top Rural Area High Speed Internet Providers

Rural USA. Ah yes, the great wide open doors. The smell of fresh, clean air. Clear blue skies and open country. Freedom. Peace and quiet. What's not to love? Some people enjoy the distance they have from technology by living in the country. Sometimes not knowing what is going on out there can be more peaceful. Others develop the interest of keeping up on current events or staying more in touch with their community, family, and friends. The fastest and easiest way to stay connected is high-speed Internet service. More and more people also use the Internet as a source of income. For some the Internet isn't just a luxury- it is necessary. People have home based businesses, go to school online, work part-time from home, or one rising trend many people are finding success is buying and selling on eBay.

For some, the economy has forced them to move out of the city and look into other more affordable areas to live. Lower mortgages, affordable school costs, and cheaper taxes can make rural areas a more attractive place to live. Quality of life seems more attainable with lower financial burdens. Once a place is established getting the lights and gas turned on is a no-brainer. Setting up mail forwarding is easy. Next on the list: high-speed Internet service. Sometimes not so easy. People in rural areas often have difficulty with this. They can't find anyone that provides high speed rural Internet service in their area.

Broadband Satellite Internet

Local phone and Internet providers service areas where they can remain profitable and stay in business. If there is not enough people living in a centralized area it might not seem attractive for an Internet provider to provide rural Internet in that area. Sometimes people are just on the "cut off" of where a provider starts and stops their coverage. Someone's next store neighbor may have high speed DSL Internet but when they call for an appointment they are told they do not service the address because they are too far away. Even though they are right next door. Finding rural Internet providers is not easy.

Satellite television providers such as DISH Network and Direct TV are popular in rural areas because cable companies don't always reach to the area. Direct TV usually works with local Internet providers, if available, and can sometimes provide a bundled service or a "Direct TV Bundle". DISH Network previously partnered with rural satellite Internet provider Wild Blue, and at one point, could provide bundled TV and Internet service or a "DISH Network Bundle". The company that owns DISH Network, EchoStar recently teamed up with rural satellite Internet provider giant, Hughes Net, and now the two are teaming up to provide both high-speed rural Internet through Hughes Net satellite Internet and TV service through DISH Network. Hughes Net and Sky Blue are the rural Internet providers for remote, rural, and country areas.

Some people go wireless. Also called an "air-card". An air-card is a little USB device that hooks into your computer or laptop. These work great if you have enough signal strength. The downside to air-cards is they use the cellular network and function on signal strength, which is not always strong or consistent in remote areas. There are also monthly limitations, restrictions, and overages on air-cards for rural Internet.

When local providers such as Charter, Comcast, Verizon, or ATT don't service the area as rural Internet providers and air-cards aren't working cause of the signal strength, speed, or usage restrictions, satellite Internet services these country areas and is usually the only option for rural Internet. Satellite Internet providers such as Starband, Wild Blue or Sky Blue, and Hughes Net provide high-speed rural Internet to un-served areas of the country where DSL and cable Internet do not reach. Rural Internet providers are now available and at blazing high satellite speed.

People and businesses in rural areas enjoy the flexibility of not needing a phone line with satellite Internet. There is no phone line required and because satellite Internet providers Sky Blue and Hughes Net have service everywhere, they are usually the only high speed rural Internet providers. Just like satellite television a satellite dish is installed outside the house and a modem is provided that connects to the Internet. The dish uses advanced wireless signals allowing for a fast high-speed 'always on' Internet connection and making satellite Internet the fastest rural Internet providers. A wireless router can be hooked up to provide wireless Internet with a laptop anywhere in the house. People enjoy the flexibility to be able to access the Internet anywhere in the house. Whether it's in the kitchen, the bedroom, the family room, the den, or even the porch, satellite Internet can also provide rural Internet wirelessly.

How to Set Up a Satellite Internet Connection

Satellite internet is becoming more and more popular. With faster connections, faster uploading and downloading speeds, more users are choosing to set up their internet services through satellite. Its benefits are drawing cable modem and DSL users, as these services are sometimes frustratingly unreliable. Switching your internet to a satellite service is also not as difficult as most people would believe.

First, place an order with a high-speed satellite provider. Schedule an appointment with your chosen provider for a professional to install your dish. The Federal Communications Commission does not permit you to install the dish yourself as FCC regulations restrict the directions of satellite dishes and antennas. It is better to have a professional determine the best position for the satellite dish anyway. All the signals are provided from the southern direction because the satellites orbiting the earth are all located around the equator. Any installation done will consist of mounting the dish in a good location, then performing a few tests to see if there is anything interfering with the desired signal. Usually, any hardware needed for mounting and connecting the dish will be provided with all the required equipment.

Broadband Satellite Internet

Once your dish has been properly placed and targeted, getting a satellite broadband connection is relatively easy. Using the provided cables, connect your dish to a wall jack in your house. When this has been done, you merely need to check the signal's strength and start configuring your computer to the newly created connection.

Choose a satellite internet provider that offers two-way connections. Without two way connection, you will find the speed of your broadband connection is drastically slower, as one-way connections only download through the satellite and upload through phone lines. This process slows up the sending and receiving of any and all data. Through a two-way connection, data is downloaded and uploaded through the satellite.

Many satellite broadband services, however, will provide different plans where there may be additional charges. Make sure you ask which service plan most fits your needs. Also evaluate which plan has the strongest coverage for the best price.

Also, consider how many computers will need internet access. If you only have one computer that needs to be connected, simply use an Ethernet cable, connecting the satellite modem to the port on this particular computer. Most households, however, have more computers, so you will need to connect a router, which allows multiple computers to share an internet connection. For this, simply plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the satellite and the other end into the router. Then use other Ethernet cables to connect all your computers to each of the ports on the router.

Setting up your internet connection need not be a big hassle. Call your service provider with any questions you may have or check the manual that comes with your satellite dish. Once you finish and begin surfing the web and downloading images through satellite speeds, you'll wonder why you ever hesitated to change your cable or DSL connection to satellite internet.

GRITtv: The F Word: Success on Net Neutrality

GRITtv: The F Word: Success on Net Neutrality Tube. Duration : 1.35 Mins.

Public pressure works, GRITtv guests love to say. Now we have a new example. In an update on our last show, FCC chair Julius Genachowski says he's now going to go ahead and regulate broadband under the same decades-old rules designed for phone networks. This decision, as our guests Tim Karr and Amalia Deloney explained this week, will reiterate the FCC's jurisdiction and their right to enforce Net Neutrality. The move will likely anger the telecoms. More importantly, it shows the value of organized pressure on government agencies. Groups like Free Press and the Center for Media Justice rallied their contacts and made call after call to the FCC. In a way, the success is an example of just why Net Neutrality matters. Score another for a free and open Internet. The rapid-response organizing done online by Free Press and others was integral to this campaign. And it worked. The new regulations not done and dusted as they say, but so far so good. More info - guess where - online. The F Word is a regular commentary by Laura Flanders, the host of GRITtv which broadcasts weekdays on satellite TV (Dish Network Ch. 9415 Free Speech TV) on cable, and online at GRITtv.org and TheNation.com. Ethernet Internet Service Package

Many companies are now relying and depending on the use of internet. This is because Internet offers and delivers services with high-quality, high-speed connections for companies or even individuals who depends on the Internet for critical applications. All you have to do is simply plug the switch of router into the RJ-45 Ethernet connector that your service provider have installed. Right away, you are connected to the Internet at broadband speeds. Ethernet Internet uses the same protocol that runs on Local Area Network connection.

Nowadays, there are varieties of broadband Internet access through DSL, Cable Internet, Wireless ISPs, or T1 lines. There are many service providers that offer a comprehensive suite of Internet options, not only traditional connections (TDM) from T1 to OC48 but also Ethernet connections from 10 Mbps ports to 10 Gbps ports. Internet Services (EIS) transport Internet access over a full-duplex Ethernet connection. With Ethernet Internet connection, you gain the ability to cost effectively connect your network to the Internet using a familiar technology. And for this reason, you can easily expand to meet your company's growing bandwidth requirements.

How to Get Cheap Satellite Even If You Already Have a Satellite Internet Service

Satellite internet is similar to other high speed internet services. To use the service, you have to sign a service contract for a specific period of time. In the initial stages of your contract, you often get a lower rate as an incentive for signing up. But then the price increases to regular rates. The increase is often quite a lot. Even so, you can still get cheap satellite internet. Here's how to do it.

There are advantages and disadvantages to having satellite high speed internet. The disadvantage is the fact that you have to pay more than with DSL or cable internet. The advantage lies with the fact that satellite internet is an emerging technology.

Broadband Satellite Internet

Any new technological product that comes into the marketplace generates a lot of buzz and a high cost initially. If you think for example about flat screen TVs. The price today is a lot less than it was when they first became available. The cost goes down as improvements are made in the technology.

Because of the limited customer base, satellite providers of internet services rarely use conventional advertising. That's why, when your promotional price is over, you should contact your service provider and ask about new packages and pricing.

Maybe there will be a new package available and maybe not. But the point is you probably won't be aware of it unless you ask them. And if there isn't one now, call them back in 6 months. Things change very quickly in this industry.

Whatever you do, do not wait until after your contract runs out to contact them. Believe me, I know. I waited and it cost me a lot. You see, my contract had expired and I was carrying on, on a monthly basis. I knew I should check into a new contract but I hadn't done so.

Then one day out of the blue I got a phone call from my internet service provider offering a better package and better pricing if I renewed for a year. Because of updates and improvements in their satellite service, they could now offer their existing customers an improved package for less money.

If I had contacted them as soon as my contract expired I could have been saving per month for more than 6 months. They were going through their customer files and offering new deals to customers who had completed their contracts when my name came up.

Better yet is that if at any time a better price comes into effect during the period of my contract, I am eligible for it, just by renewing again for a year.

As the internet via satellite business becomes more competitive, more service providers will be trying to get a bigger share of this booming market. If a service provider already has your business, they will go to great lengths to avoid having you move on to a different provider. The result is better packages and lower pricing.

Why not take advantage of this? It's certainly a good idea to see what's on offer from the competition but be sure to check out what your existing service provider has available. The fact is that even if you have a contract, you may still be able to negotiate and get cheap satellite internet right now.

Broadband vs. Dial Up

Back in the early 90s, the Internet, as we know it, was born. The only available connection back then was a dial up modem. It was slow and cumbersome, but we could search millions of sites and meet many different people. Of course, you could be in the middle of talking with someone and someone else in your household may need to use the phone. Well, since you are connected to the internet via the only phone line in the house, they can't use the phone or they would knock you off. Downloading something over ten megabytes takes a nightmareishly long time and anything larger than that and you'll be old and wrinkled before it's done.

Fast forward about ten years to the year 2000. This is about the time broadband became a significant force in the online world. It started becoming very affordable, some companies offering it for LESS than the cost of dial up. You may be think, "Broadband isn't available in my area though". Broadband accessibility is spreading rapidly. Of course, you can opt to go with satellite, but a big drawback to that is, if it rains really hard, or anything else that can get in between you and the satellite, it can cause your service to, in some cases, be slower than dial up.

Broadband Satellite Internet

Most phone companies offer some form of DSL. Most cable companies will offer some kind of package plan that includes a cable internet connection. Most of the time, cable is the best choice to go with. It is faster, more reliable and it doesn't matter how far away from the main office you are as to what speed you will have. DSL, on the other hand, is a good alternative if you simply cannot get cable. Most of the time, DSL will tend to be a bit slower than cable. Its speed will be determined by how close the phone company's office is to your house. Both DSL and cable are good choices. Downloading big files is no longer a nightmare and you can actually start thinking about files larger than ten megabytes!

There are, of course, drawbacks, even to broadband. That drawback comes in the form of it being an 'always on' connection. You will want some kind of antivirus and firewall protection. There are many free ones out there. Windows XP comes with a built in firewall. It's okay if you don't have anything better. If at all possible get a better one. Antivirus is also needed as you will run into at least one virus during your time with broadband. Between a good antivirus and a good firewall, though, you shouldn't have anything extremely harmful affect your computer. You may have some adware and spyware but that's easily removed, as well.

Now then, ask yourself if you can really afford to not have a broadband connection. It will improve the way you use the internet. You could even start your own business and have it up and running the same day with broadband!

Paksat-1R launch in China this week Tube. Duration : 0.27 Mins.

Paksat-1R launch in China this week 中国近日将发射巴基斯坦通讯卫星.mp4 BEIJING (INP) - Paksat-1R, a Pakistani geostationary and an advanced communication satellite, is due to be launched in space from a Chinese satellite launching site in Xichang city in the second week of August, depending on weather conditions. Paksat-1R will replace Paksat-1, which is going to complete its useful life this year. "Paksat-1R is going to be a new symbolic development in Pakistan-China relations, as it will broaden the horizons of cooperation between the two countries," said Pakistan's Ambassador to China Masood Khan. "It will spur our economy, strengthen the education and health sectors and help us with disaster preparedness and response." Khan held that such cooperation with China would help Pakistan move towards self-reliance. Tracing the history of cooperation between the two countries in the realm of space science, the ambassador said that "it goes back to the 1990s, when Pakistan launched its first low earth orbit satellite Badr-1". Broadband Internet - For a High Speed Connection

In this infotainment arena, technology is playing a vital role in changing yesterday's world into the latest high-tech world. High speed internet has made world come closer, as it offers hassle-free communication with the benefit of cost effectiveness. In the technical world, high speed internet is referred to as broadband internet. This allows users to access information at a higher speed compared to the dial-up access over the modem.

The broadband internet or broadband access is getting popular among users to operate information on the desktop or laptop computer. The broadband technology handles the user's operations with a speed ranging from 64kbits to 1.0Mbits. The high-speed connection offers seamless connectivity with excellent results.

Broadband Satellite Internet

The users have access to information on the internet at a faster speed. This has been made possible with a built-in high-speed modem. The users can avail the broadband internet connection in form of DSL, cable or satellite. DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line; it allows users to transmit a high volume of data, voice, images and videos quickly.

Broadband technology has been applied to the realm of communications also - with very positive results. With broadband internet, it has become very easy to chat and connect with near and dear ones at significantly lower rates. Moreover, the speed is 10 times faster compared to the dial-up connection that allows users to access information in a fraction of seconds. The high-speed connection does not get disconnected during peak hours also.

The broadband connection does not hinder the operation of telephone lines. Unlike a dial-up connection over the modem, broadband provides access to receive or make calls on the telephone line, even when the internet is in use. In the early ages of the broadband, it was very expensive and now with the passage of time, it is in the reach of even average users.

The newest wave of the broadband connection allows users to transfer and download the data at a faster speed.

Broadband Cable Internet Brings New Possibilities To Internet Users

Dial up is a very slow way of getting online, but many people are still using it because it is simple and cheap. DSL has been around for many years, but it has traditionally been expensive and the extra speed that it gives is not always enough to make up for the effort of getting a new service. Considering the importance of Internet to daily life these days, having only these two options of getting online seems fairly bleak. However, over the last couple years, a different service emerged, known as broadband cable Internet. This service has proven to be a very popular service because it has been able to eliminate many of the problems that plague both dial up and DSL.

Comcast's broadband cable Internet arose out of the knowledge that the infrastructure that delivers cable television also had the capacity to deliver Internet services. Once Comcast decided to go digital with its television services, the company updated all of its underground cables to accommodate more bandwidth transmission and to make it easier to transport data. This upgrade make it possible for the company to add on new broadband cable Internet services without compromising its cable television services. Internet, as a digital medium, is fully compatible with the transmission of digital television, and sharing the same infrastructure for the two services made it possible for Comcast Cable to start offering an Internet service without extreme expense (and thus keeping prices competitive).

Broadband Satellite Internet

What broadband cable Internet excels most at is speed. For instance, when other types of services offer a couple of Mbps as their top speed, Comcast offers up to 8 Mbps. This difference in speed is due to the different technologies that carry services such as DSL and those that carry broadband cable Internet. As would be expected, as technology becomes even more advanced, cable will still be able to maintain a higher connection speed than other types of services.

Even at this time, it is possible to see that high speed Internet technology is moving forward to the time when even higher speeds are needed. Though PowerBoost speeds - a way of giving bursts of speed at certain times- (which reach 12 Mbps) are not maintained at all times, they come into play when extra speed is necessary. PowerBoost is an innovative way of allocating limited bandwidth to the customers who are in need of more of it at any given time, and the technology will likely become more widespread in the future.

For the basic Internet user, cable's high speed Internet services offer more than enough speed to do even extremely bandwidth-intensive applications, also enough speed to provide each member of a household with enough bandwidth to simultaneously get online. Some of the most common uses of the Internet are to check email, share info and photos with friends and family, and to take advantage of online entertainment. Though some of the online entertainment sites require very fast connections, the higher speed cable connections provide plenty of speed.

As the popularity of broadband cable Internet keeps on increasing, we will probably soon see the day when other forms of Internet become obsolete. Broadband cable Internet provides a much higher quality service but, thanks to its reliance on existing infrastructure, is cost-effective for all users.

SBC DSL: A Good Choice for High Speed Internet

What is the best way for me to go about getting high speed internet in my house? I searched on line and through the yellow pages, only to find that there are an uncountable number of high speed internet options out there. However, as I sifted through all of the consumer sites and user reviews, I found that SBC DSL may, indeed, be the best bet for bringing high speed internet to my home office.

According to many a review, SBC DSL is the most reliable DSL service out there. They also happen to be the largest in many major metropolitan areas in the country, or at least those serviced by Southwestern Bell. SBC DSL has a spectacular reputation among consumers for having technologically advanced products, great customer service, and good competitive prices on their service. The only drawback I could find is that several SBC DSL customers found setting up a home network to be difficult. However, by simply converting to wireless internet, you can solve that problem and still have your SBC DSL connection all over your home.

Broadband Satellite Internet

A big advantage of SBC DSL is that in most cases you can get a free modem and setup. Setup can be one of the more frustrating parts of getting high speed internet, especially if you are not technically savvy. Many companies charge a setup fee, so that savings alone can make SBC DSL attractive to you. Installation can be difficult, and there is charge for that. However, if you do it yourself they waive the fee and you will still have access to the very knowledgeable and helpful SBC DSL customer service representatives.

Many high speed and DSL internet companies will not be willing to give you a firm date as to when you can get your connection taken care of. That is another way that SBC DSL is different. Once you place an order you are given an installation date, which is as a general rule about six business days out from when you call. Such convenience and up front commitment from a company makes it easier for you to arrange your schedule around setup and installation plenty of time in advance without fear that you will have to make more last minute changes to your busy schedule.

There are a ton of high speed internet options out there today. There are cable internet, DSL companies, wireless internet over cell phone signals, and even high speed dial up connections. Each one tells you that it is the best for converting your office or home to high speed internet connection. Which, though, is the best? That is hard to say definitively as prices and services vary by area, but the one with the best reputation around is SBC DSL. By offering friendly representatives, good competitive pricing, and commitment to service, SBC DSL [http://www.exeterdaily.com/category/computing-tips] is a model high speed internet service. They will allow you to go to high speed without the worry of setup, installation, and whether or not you will be able to get in touch with someone the next time you have a problem with the service. That peace of mind is as valuable as anything else.

Satellite Internet Uses - Social Networking Websites

Satellite internet has many uses, one being communication. The internet offers a variety of ways to stay in touch with people, such as e-mail and chat. One other way is through social media websites. Log onto your satellite broadband connection and you will find that there are a variety of social networking websites, all used for communication purposes but in different ways.

Two of the most popular social networking websites people with satellite internet connections use are LinkedIn and Facebook. These two sites have a number of overlaps in their uses and functions but are used for very different purposes. LinkedIn is a professional website and Facebook is meant for personal use.

Broadband Satellite Internet

1. LinkedIn: LinkedIn is a business-oriented professional networking website used worldwide. Users register a username and password for free and then create a profile. The profile is filled out similarly to a resume, containing work related experience and information. Users enter their past and current job experience, including descriptions, and their career goals. Personal information, such as a photo, name, and location, complete the profile. The purpose of the site is to connect with other users in order to benefit your career; the list of these people is called your "connections." Once you are connected with someone you can view each other's profiles, view their connections, find related job and business opportunities, send messages to each other, and recommend each other. The more other users recommend you (usually past employers) and the more connections you have, the more credibility your profile has. With more than 60 million users throughout the world, LinkedIn is becoming a go to networking website for professionals.

2. Facebook: Since its launch in 2004, Facebook has become the most used social networking site online. It was initially only intended for college students, as a way for them to connect and stay in touch. Since 2006 it has been available in a number of countries throughout the world for anyone older than 13 years old with an e-mail address and an internet connection, such as satellite broadband. Facebook started as a more detailed and interactive online version of the print face books that many universities hand out to enrolled students, which include a photo and education information of members of the student body. After completing the free Facebook registration, users create a profile, including as little or as much personal information as they wish. Users can add friends to their contact list, which allows them to view their profile and write on each other's walls (a public forum for messaging). Photo albums, one of the many features, allow users to post personal photos and "tag" their friends in them. Facebook has become a venue for people to get in touch with current friends, potential friends, and friends from their past.

Although you can list your current and past job experience on Facebook, the site is not intended for business networking. In fact, there has been much controversy over privacy issues and potential employers viewing prospective employees' Facebook profiles, which may contain information not meant for employers eyes. LinkedIn is strictly for business purposes, so users keep their profiles professional and clean and save Facebook for personal photos and information. These are just two examples of social networking websites you can find with satellite internet, but there are many more options when it comes to networking and staying in touch online.

Shareware Telecommunications Model: SWANsat has published an economic model that could provide developing country residents access to the SWANsat Satellite service for as little as per month. It is hailed as an effective way to bridge the Global_digital_divide. Specifically, the Shareware model states that after meeting a modest business model target of full paying subscribers in richer countries, it will start to offer the SWANsat service to underserved and unserved countries. One additional full paying subscriber will release 40 shareware accounts & possibly handsets. For example, 10 million full subscriptions will release 400 million shareware accounts.

How good can satellite broadband be? Watch this video and see for yourself. This is the type of service we plan to offer after ViaSat-1 launches this summer. Based on poor satellite broadband performance in the past, there is a lot of doubt that satellite will ever be a good consumer broadband choice. We disagree. This video was shot in real time as we browsed the web using a satellite broadband connection with the same bandwidth allocation and acceleration you'll get from WildBlue when services roll out later this year.

EiA3 :: Walking The Holland Track (8 of 9) 'Bush Cooking'

EiA3 :: Walking The Holland Track (8 of 9) 'Bush Cooking' Video Clips. Duration : 8.62 Mins.

EiA3 was the third walk as part of the 'Education in Action' project. Two of us retraced John Holland's track (we slightly extended it to 616km) from Broomehill to Kalgoorlie, Western Australia on foot and unassisted, pulling our food, water and gear in custom made carts. Normally a 4x4 track, we suspect this may be the first retracing of it on foot in modern times (haven't been able to find any contrary evidence as yet). Making the journey particularly interesting was the fact that we were internet ready, thanks to the help of BGAN satellite broadband technology and large cart-mounted solar panels which recharged our batteries. This enabled us to update our progress every night via Google Maps, and send emails to friends and family, as well as groups of school children back in Perth who were following our progress online. Furthermore, the use of Skype actually allowed us to LIVE teleconference directly to the classroom, answering student's questions and giving them a direct link to 'real life in the Australian outback'. The teddy bears that feature in the videos were actually from Pre-Primary students' class. These children had been following the progress of the walk very simply 'through ted's eyes'. Our website www.eia.net.au is being rebuilt at the time of writing this, but we hope to have it back online soon, packed with photos and information about the history, geography, botany and any other interesting details about this exciting area of Western Australia. Advantages and Disadvantages of Satellite Internet

Satellite Internet has taken the world by storm and for good reason. This method of Internet connection is extremely fast, reliable, versatile, flexible and convenient. All these benefits are combined into a single product rarely. When used for interactive fun playing games online or for business meetings with participants from around the world, satellite internet is known without doubt the most impressive technology.

But as with any new development,is always good and bad things will be observed. One advantage is speed. Satellite Internet is 50 times faster than dial-up and about 25 times faster than high-speed cable. With download speeds between 700 Kbps and 1.5 Mbps, nothing compares. In addition, the upload speed to reach as high as 256 Kbps, are something that can reach any other Internet connection. The only drawback is that during peak hours are, these speeds canincreased slightly.

Broadband Satellite Internet

The cost of satellite internet is also a great advantage that everything that reaches the consumer, the price is low. Of course, the price would vary from one provider to another, but most charge between $ 50 and $ 70 per month. For this price, consumers would enjoy download speeds of 700 kbps. But for a little 'more money, increase to $ 80 to $ 90 rate to about 1.5 Mbps The disadvantage is that while the monthly fee is very easy on the budget, there is ainitial cost for equipment, which averages about 0, as well as 0 for installation.

Probably one of the greatest benefits of using satellite Internet is that with signals coming from space, power outages would VERY rarely cause the connection to be lost.  For instance, during a severe rain or snowstorm, satellite Internet remains up.  Now, if the weather were extremely bad, it could slow the connection but this is rare.  To ensure connection never goes down people need to choose a reliable provider, one that uses the most innovative dishes.

The reliability of satellite Internet is one of the reasons so many people are moving away from cable.  Again, while severe weather might cause a slow down, other than that, a person with satellite Internet should never need to worry about having a broken connection.  The satellite dish used outside, as well as cables are rugged and designed to hold up to tough situations.

For maintenance of satellite Internet, no ongoing requirement exists.  Sometimes, people may notice that the speed slows down at which time a professional technician from the provider would likely need to tweak the dish.  For instance, for satellite Internet to work, the dish has to have a clear view of the Southern sky.  If for some reason the dish were to move, the technician may need to aim it differently or even relocate it to a more effective spot.

Now, while upload and download speeds of satellite Internet are impressive, people need to understand that providers of this service must follow Fair Access Policies.  This means the user still has some limitations as to the amount of information, video, or audio that can be downloaded at a single time.  In fact, providers of satellite Internet actually have to follow stricter rules than cable providers do.  However, with speeds being so fast, the process is still easier and faster than with any other Internet connection.

Cricket Broadband Vs Sprint & Verizon Mobile Broadband - Which is Better?

Sprint & Verizon have dominated the Mobile Internet field since about 2004.  They have gone back and forth several times in regards to who has the best coverage, pricing, broadband cards and so on.  But, that said, they are fairly similar.  They both cost .99 a month.  They both use the same exact technology with the same top speeds. They both have a 2 year contract in order to get the Broadband Card for a decent price.

Recently, a new competitor has emerged that does offer something different.  Some for the better, some for the worse.

Broadband Satellite Internet

Let's look at the advantages of Cricket Broadband first:

1) No Contract - Month to Month service

2) No credit checks and no deposits

3) Only a month for Unlimited service vs. a month for Sprint or Verizon

4) Rev A service in most areas - up to 3.1 Mbps downloads, but in reality Cricket's coverage is much more spotty than Verizon or Sprint.  Actual speeds are usually 300Kbps to 1000Kpbs.

Now for the downsides:

1) Coverage! Cricket is limited to only select cities in the USA. If you are a frequent traveler outside your home city, you will want Sprint or Verizon since they have MUCH more coverage throughout the USA. But, if you just want something that works in your city, and Cricket has coverage there, it can be a decent choice.

2) Customer Service. Cricket can be very hard to get technical support from - especially when it comes to a Broadband card.

3) Technical issues.  We have heard of people having trouble getting on some websites, while other sites are no problem, in addition to slower that expected speeds for some customers.

  Bottom Line:

I would not recommend Cricket for frequent travelers, or for use in an RV as the coverage is just not there.   However, if you are lucky enough to live in a city where Cricket offers service, then Cricket is could be an alternative for you.  Just beware of the lack of coverage nationally and the problems you may face if technical issues arise.  Verizon, while more expensive, is a much more stable and sure fire choice, especially if you are running a business or handling critical tasks with your service.  Additionally,  a benefit for either service is you don't have to buy a coffee to get unsecure WiFi internet at a cafe!

Satellite Broadband Internet Access

Access to satellite broadband internet is slowly taking a greater share of the Internet market. The services offered by broadband satellite services to the Internet, the Internet is comparable to the ground, but the satellite internet service is more popular as it is provided via a satellite instead of cable landlocked. The three most popular supplier of broadband satellite Internet services have WildBlue, HughesNet and StarBand. Each of these vendors can help youto be connected, but each provider has its limits, what they can do and that can be used.

WildBlue is the youngest of the three service providers of broadband satellite Internet. To access their services, you need a computer running Windows 2000, Windows Vista, Windows XP or Mac OS 10.4 or higher. After placing your order, call a technician to set a time to install the satellite equipment. The installation will take 2 to 3 hours, butIt will be a well worth the wait. Once connected, you will be as fast as 256 Kbps upload and it will be possible at speeds up to 1.5 Mbps download. However, the speeds are not guaranteed and may be delayed by bad weather and rush hour.

Broadband Satellite Internet

HughesNet Satellite Internet is another service provider. They have many of the same system requirements and installation requirements WildBlue. The FCC requires satellite systems can send and receive datainstalled by specially trained and certified technicians. For this reason, HughesNet provides installation costs in the prices of their equipment package. Once the system is set up you will be able, at an average speed of 75 Kbps upload, and you will be able to download at speeds between 700 Kbps and 1.5 Mbps depending on the service package you choose.

HughesNet services are for fixed installations. This means that there is a suitable choice for mobile homes, boats and trucks. However, if you are interested in mobile Internet services, then you can contact HughesNet partners that offer mobile internet service, as MotoSat, Ground Control and MobilSat.

StarBand is the third largest internet provider of satellite services. This service, like HughesNet is designed for fixed hosts. To access the Internet with StarBand requires Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional, Mac OSX, a CD-ROM and an Ethernet port. StarBand offersits service to the continental U.S. and Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. However, to receive the signal of the non-continental areas, you need a larger dish, LNB's biggest holder of a satellite receiver and a stronger signal.
